Alt or Option? I say BLANK!

Posted Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005 by nycgadgetgirl

I was reading this post about a particular keyboard key and started giggling to myself when I realized I don’t even THINK about what keys are called anymore. My keyboard keys are blank, so my thoughts just go brain-to-keyboard now without having to think about how the keys function. It’s kind of neat. I was going to suggest in the comments that everyone just get a Das Keyboard, but someone beat me to it.

And, I just have to say, regarding the keyboard, my mini me sat down to use it the other day and after a couple minutes of exasperated frustration, she totally got the hang of it!

It really does make you type faster once you get used to it. And just by virtue of being full-sized, it also forced me to correct some of the weird finger combinations I was using for keystrokes on my laptop. (This is the first time I’ve used a full size keyboard in 6 or 7 years.)

The Das keyboard would never work for me because I have to switch back and forth between Hebrew and English all day. If I didn’t have the keys labelled I’d forget how to type in both! :-)

I hadn’t thought of bilingual typing. That WOULD be confusing without labels!!!

Although, you’d be surprised what your brain can do when you take its crutches away. I didn’t realize how often I still glanced down for non-letter keys until I got this keyboard. At first it drove me nuts, but now I almost never look down. It might actually make bilingual typing EASIER in the long run.
