Maybe I Really WILL Live in a Yurt

Posted Tuesday, January 24th, 2006 by nycgadgetgirl

I wasn’t serious when I said Maybe I Will Live in a Yurt, but believe it or not I’m actually considering it now.

T & I have been thinking of leaving the city for a little while. (And, NO, I haven’t heard anything regarding the contract in Virginia.) One of the places we consider when we periodically discuss escape is Indianapolis, because my sister lives there. And we love her. Even though she never updates her blog. (hint hint)

So, she’s buying this house on a big piece of land. And I’m in need of some relaxation and a NEW JOB. And T wants to change schools. Maybe I will build a yurt on her land and we will live there for a couple years. When we move back to NYC, she will have a nifty guest house!

Of course, T said on her blog that she was “so not living in a yurt,” but she is changing her mind. We were designing circular floor plans a few days ago.

So, it COULD happen.

Do Shibas swim? Would Snick go swimming with Chase and Drummer or would he just think they were nuts when they jumped in the pond?

I had to call my insurance agent today for a quote. “How far are you from the nearest fire station?” “Less than a mile!” “Excellent. And how far from the nearest hydrant?” “Ummm… just over 1000 feet, but there’s a pond right outside the front door… probably less than 100 feet from water to house.”

She was satisfied w/ that answer. Apparently all fire departments here are equipped with trucks that can just pump straight from the pond. Lower insurance rates, here I come!

oh my gosh. Do Shibas swim? Most Shibas HATE the water. I can’t believe I’ve never blogged about what I have to go through with Snickers when it is raining. I would tell you now, but I think I’ll save that post. For a rainy day. (ba da bum)

Less than a mile from the nearest fire house? Cute fire fighters to ogle, even way out there? Cool!

Well, see, in my guys’ minds, swimming water and falling-from-the-sky water aren’t really related. Hate rain. Love swimming. Odd ducks, my duck dogs.

The whole Yurt thing has me thinking of a Dr. Seuss story, or should I say that it sounds like it should be a Dr. Seuss story.

“Yurt” does seem like a word Seuss would have liked! Hmmm…
