To Move or Not To Move
Posted Sunday, January 15th, 2006 by nycgadgetgirlMy lease renewal came last week. 1 year? 2 years? Move? We’ve been in this apartment for almost 3 years. It’s very small, but it’s cozy. We have everything pretty much the way we want it. We’re happy here. It’s convenient AND the rent will still be reasonable even with a two year renewal.
On the other hand, when we were driving home from Christmas in Indy we started talking about moving out of the city for a couple years. We’re still talking about it and now the renewal is here to force a decision. To move or not to move?
I love the city. I’ve spent most of my adult life here. By choice. T’s never known any other life, unless you count her spring and summer trips down south to visit her grandparents. We’re tired though. Tired and stressed. We keep talking about how living somewhere else for a couple years would be relaxing.
But tonight we were eating and I realized… NO TAKEOUT!
I’m not sure I can live anywhere that I can’t pick up the phone at 11:30 PM and order just about anything I want and have it delivered. So, I said that to T and she said “But we’ll still have Fresh Direct.” I was like “uh, no, honey, we won’t.” She’s very worried now that we might actually move.

T would be terrified if she lived where I do. The closest pizza place doesn’t even deliver. Come to think of it, neither does the Chinese place.

If it ain’t fixed don’t brea… um, you know what I meant.
A lot of people walk out on ‘just OK’ and go off looking for ‘pretty damned great’. The problem is that for most of us, having things ‘just OK’ on a regular basis is really ‘pretty damned good’!

Yeah, unfortunately “somewhere quiet” and “variety of takeout” don’t really go together. If you’re outside the primary metro area here, you’re lucky to get pizza delivery. Closer in, most other places still don’t deliver, but there are a couple of delivery services that will take your order and pick up from lots of places.
The new place is in a town so small that I was just happy they _have_ a pizza place (pizza, Subway, Dairy Queen, McD’s *shudder*). But I’ll happily give up pizza delivery to get back safe running room for the dogs and quiet and trees for me. After all, I’ll pass all my favorite places on my way home from work every day, so I just need to learn to plan ahead a bit, right? I can do takeout instead of delivery.

David - The fact that your comment made complete sense to me has me a little worried.

Hi, it’s T and it would be scary having no take out AND no Fresh Direct but for a place with quiet and stillness I would give it up….. I think.
