Madison Avenue Smells Like Beer

I work on Fifth right by 42nd. Even though we’re on the 27th floor of our building, we can hear the bagpipes on St. Pat’s morning before the parade. I make a point not to go outside any time there is a parade or event on Fifth, so I haven’t been out since I got here this morning. I just heard one of the guys come back from lunch though and he was saying he’d never seen so many blond drunks in midtown. He said “They’re everywhere and they’re all drunk. Madison Avenue smells like beer.” It struck me as funny.

It also reminded me of a text message an Irish-American friend sent me a couple years ago on St. Patrick’s Day. It said “Happy drunken family members calling me from a bar where I can never show my face again Day.”

Makes you wanna be Irish for the day, eh?

I have a friend who plays bagpipes. He told me the reason they walk while they play is to get away from the music. :)
