Non-profit and Rescue Work
Although I live and work in midtown Manhattan, animals are my passion. I had dogs and horses most of my life before moving to NYC, but I wasn’t lucky enough to be owned by a Shiba Inu until January 2004. My first Shiba, Snickers, truly stole my heart in a way no other animal ever had. After noticing how he enjoyed playing with other Shibas, I started a meetup group for NYC Shiba owners. About a year after that, along with several other members of the meetup group, I started NYC Shiba Rescue to rescue Shiba Inus and Shiba Inu mixed breed dogs from dangerous environments and shelters in the NYC metropolitan area.
Founding and managing a breed rescue group has been a very educational experience and I’ve consequently decided to dedicate my life to helping reduce the overpopulation of companion animals in the United States. I believe this can be done by strengthening the shelter/rescue system, fighting to eliminate puppy mills and the pet stores that support them, and educating consumers on the acquisition and care of dogs.
