by the time I get to work each morning

  • I have been awake for 3 hours.
  • I’ve had breakfast with my daughter.
  • I’ve had my first cup of coffee.
  • I’ve probably dropped off, or picked up, my laundry or my dry cleaning.
  • I’ve spent time with at least two of my good friends.
  • I have walked 1.5 miles.
  • I’m usually hungry for my second breakfast already.

If we were still sans dog, this list would look like this…

  • I’ve been awake for 45 minutes.
  • I’ve glimpsed my daughter in passing as I stumbled into the shower.
  • I have walked .7 miles.
  • I’ve incoherently purchased my breakfast and coffee on the way to the office.

I think I’m better off with the dog. Although I’m sure similar lists (say, about house cleaning or free time) might seem to slant the other way.

    Snick is your personal trainer.

I must have the wrong breed of dog. I wake up and do my writing in the moring and she sleeps in.

David - Maybe you just have Jordan better trained than I have Snickers! Truthfully, Snick is pretty good. He chills out in the morning while I shower and dress. Then he eats breakfast with T and me before I take him to the dog run. I got into the habit of taking him to the run for an hour or so every morning when he was a puppy (to make sure he was happily tired when I left for work) and the routine just kind of stuck. We run errands on the way there most mornings. I have my coffee there with my “dog run friends” and by the time I drop him at home and head to the office, I’ve gotten my day off to a pretty busy start!
