Tech and Web Development
An Overview
Whether an individual or organization is already established in the "real" world and expanding to the Internet, or is starting a brand new Internet-based business, it takes more than a new "dotcom" domain name and some graphics to create success. A web site can't make your business something it isn't, but a well-implemented Internet presence can complement your existing strategy. When it comes to your web site, don't get caught up in techno-jargon and buzz words; think of it like you would think of any other business tool and make sound business decisions that support your overall strategy.
A website should help you accomplish a specific goal. Visitors should be able to easily find, navigate, and understand the content of your site. You don't need to pay thousands of dollars for a brochureware site that won't help you accomplish anything, express who you are to potential customers, or improve your bottom line. Start by deciding what you want to accomplish and then enroll a partner that can help you plan a worthwhile Internet presence and then provide the resources to successfully produce what you need. The neighborhood kid that has created a few personal web sites can't do that for you, and, unfortunately, employing a firm with the business knowledge and necessary technical resources can be prohibitively costly for most entrepreneurs and small enterprises. However, there are contractors (like me) that have the requisite knowledge and access to the necessary resources to work with you to develop an affordable, successful Internet presence. You don't have to settle for less than what you need. You just need to find the right person, or people, to work with.
