Gravatars Are Fun
I’ve been afraid to post anything new today because I don’t want to take away from the fabulous discussion that’s been going on in my last post. Therefore, here’s a quickie…
1) Gravatars are cool. Everyone should go get one.
2) Now go read my last post and add your two cents if you haven’t already!

I like that. but I’m perplexed - if you have one, what isn’t it showing up here when you comment? Are you maybe using a different email address for comments? Or has something gone bloohey with my blog? ARGH!
I signed up for one too, but for some reason I can’t get the confirmation email to the address I use when I sign blogs! I can get the confirmation email sent to my other addresses, but not to the only one I actually need. I wrote to tech support to ask for assistance, so perhaps at some point, a gravatar will magically appear beside my name.
Leigh-Ann, if you have control over the spam-filtering on your various accounts, check to see if your blogging account is filtering more aggressively than others. SpamAssassin on my account tagged the gravatar auto-responder as having a 99% probability of being spam. Thankfully, I don’t can spam automatically, so I found the message languishing in my spam folder.
Unfortunately, Debbie, I can’t seem to blame the problem I’m having on a spam filter. I don’t have any spam filters on the server (which belongs to me), and I only use spam filtering rules on the program I use to read email. That program receives the Gravatar.com confirmations correctly for one account, so I can’t figure out why it would try to filter identical emails to another account. I did notice a number of people on the Gravatar support message board having the same problem, and I hope tech support will just approve me manually as it did those other people.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. When I first starting using my own server a few years ago, I had a rude shock when I discovered the “Spam Assassin” folder after a few months. I had more than one apologetic email to write
LOL! Leigh-Anne, I still occasionally have that problem (of needing to send apologetic emails)… especially if I haven’t “trained” SpamAssassin lately and it’s been allowed to make it’s own decisions about what “looks like” spam. Hopefully Gravatar support can get you sorted out… the whole process went surprisingly quickly for me once I found where the system had stashed the supposedly spammy confirmation message!
Woo-hoo… I’m “gravatared”! Despite what it may look like, it’s not a photo of my big mouth.
